BLACK HISTORY HAPPENS 365

BLACK HISTORY HAPPENS 365

February is recognized as

BLACK HISTORY MONTH.

Each year we see an influx of information being presented about our History around the world and are reminded of the incredible sacrifices our ancestors made to bring us here to the present moment.

While Black History Month IS something to celebrated, we believe that the narrative should change around the subject.

Growing up in Canada, many of us felt like the only time we were seen and loved was during those 28 days a year in February when diversity almost felt like an obligation for some rather than a celebration for others.

If we were to truly pay attention to the dates when events occurred in Black History we would notice that Black People did historical things all year long not just in February. This is why we feel it is important for all reading to remember that Black History happens 365 days a year not 28 or the ever so lucky 29 days a year.

Our hope is that Janadians learn and remember to share this message with others, so we can continue to help break down systematic injustice.
